G2 and Alliance have become the final teams to qualify for the playoffs of FISSURE Playground 3, taking down 5star and magic respectively to earn their berths.
5star came into their game against G2 with the blood of The MongolZ and Astralis already on their hands, their impressive lower bracket run rocketing up not only their VRS points but also community interest in the squad.
Unfortunately 5star's mojo ran out against G2 with a playoff berth on the line. Strong starts to both halves for 5star on Inferno gave an inkling of another giant killing, but Inferno is G2's home map and their comfort shone through once guns came up, with a Matúš "MATYS" Šimko masterclass leading the way.
G2 only reinforced their superior quality on Ancient, completely dominating 5star across both halves to ensure a straightforward series win and a spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile Alliance completed their clean lower bracket run with a 2-0 victory over magic, a team that have been making a name for themselves in recent times but stumbled in China.
The Swedes of Alliance got the job done in large part thanks to a hard-fought win on their opponents pick of Ancient. Alliance looked to have the job done easily as they once sported an 11-4 lead, but weathered the comeback to get the map over the line in overtime.
Inferno was smoother sailing, Alliance dominating on the T side thanks to a massive performance byu Sean "eraa" Knutsson before Simon "twist" Eliasson helped seal the deal by stepping up on defense.
With the conclusion of today's matches the playoff bracket has now been decided, with a spicy FURIA vs. G2 matchup set to go down in the quarter-finals:
