BETBOOM reach Beijing semi-finals over FURIA

BETBOOM made it past FURIA in the IEM Beijing quarter-finals after a three-map series that went to overtime on the decider, and will now play a grudge match against MOUZ in the next round of the playoffs after losing to them in the group stage.

BETBOOM claimed the opening map of Ancient with ease thanks to an utterly sublime performance by Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko. The Russian AWPer posted a number of high-impact multi-kills on the T side, including a clutch, to ensure a winning half for his team, before completely dominating on the CT side to close out the map.

Dust2 was a closer affair as FURIA kicked things off with a pistol victory and conversion on their T side, before zorte's AWP came online and started to rack up the rounds for BETBOOM. A 2v4 win courtesy of Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo prevented a blowout half, but BETBOOM still secured a 7-5 lead.

FalleN rolled back the years in a magical way with an all-headshot USP ace to open the second half, granting his team another good start. Once they got guns up, BETBOOM took control, punishing a double-AWP setup to get to 10 rounds, only for YEKINDAR to grab an influential triple and let his team close the deficit. With the series on the line Danil "molodoy" Golubenko and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato awoke, posting key multi-kills to send the match to a decider.

Nuke kicked off with BETBOOM taking advantage of their CT start as they went up 5-0, but what could have been a disastrous start turned after FURIA linked four in a row and added one more to keep it close at the switch.

FURIA looked poised to tie it up after winning the second pistol round, but a BETBOOM forcebuy kept it open. Two rounds later, on a near-full eco, a P250 triple by molodoy threatened to switch the balance, but BETBOOM hit right back and went on a streak to hit match point, 12-7.

Little by little, FURIA clawed their way back and won the five rounds necessary to force OT. Full of confidence, they won the first round of overtime, but couldn't run off, and the game was tied at 13-13 and 14-14 before doubles by Pavel "S1ren" Ogloblin and zorte gave BB match point.

It all came down to a last 2v2 on the A site, but FURIA didn't have time to plant, as a quick flank by Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov in Heaven spoiled the bomb going down with a kill on the planter before the BB IGL got the final frag to end it then and there.
